I’ve been reading fascinating Facebook posts from India by Krishnendu Ray, an NYU professor I had dinner with recently. His photos and summer travel stories are a window into a country I don’t know, and would love to visit. And they made it more meaningful when I found myself quoted in the Delhi University student newspaper, “Karen Christensen’s update to Oldenburg’s work makes the case that this kind of unchosen encounter is now doing real work against polarisation and loneliness — two things we don’t usually think of as connected to a chai stall, but probably should.” This will help me ensure that South Asia gets its place in the new book!
